Meet your private guide near your hotel or any other convenient place and then go to Lavra by metro or taxi. If you choose a metro ride, then we will arrive at metro Arsenalna – the second deepest underground in the world.
Enter Kyiv Pechersk Lavra through the oldest Gate Church of the Trinity. This 12th-century church has Ukrainian Baroque exteriors with lavish ornaments and well-painted images of saints. Observe the Larva yard with its luxurious churches, white narrow monks houses, the Great Lavra Bell Tower, and the Dormition Cathedral. If you climb the Great Lavra Bell Tower, you will be impressed by fascinating views over gold domes of the cathedral, the entire Lavra old town and also the huge Dnipro. Move forward to see the Dormition cathedral for its beautiful gold ornated icons. Every morning evening divine service is running here and you have the opportunity to listen to the magical Orthodox choir singing and melodic bell towers ringing.
Walk down by steep stone road to the lower Lavra and this monastery main feature – underground caves. Take the candle and go through the mysterious darkness of the ancient cave. Observe coffins of monks in their splendid dresses. Be ready to meet priest with worshipers who pray in underground chapels. Your guide will tell you why the Soviet government could not to take relics away and why monks lived in the narrow underground caves.
The highlight of our tour is visiting the Museum of Historical Treasures of Ukraine. The museum is small Ukrainian hermitage, Ukrainian history “in gold and silver”. It keeps an astounding collection of precious stones and metal found or made in Ukraine. Our guide will lead you through the ancient jewellery of the nomadic Scythian tribes from 2500 years ago. You will see real ancient gold items, among them the magnificent “Golden pectoral” (chest decoration of a Scythian king). The museum possesses also an impeccable collection of Russian, Jewish, Polish and German masterpieces.
