Eastern Orthodoxy in Moldova was introduced by the emperor Constantine the Great in the 4th century.

In 11th – 14th centuries Moldavian land was included into Kingdom of Galicia–Volhynia.

Metropolitan Petro Mohyla was the famous religious leader of Moldova and Ukraine in the 17th century. In Kyiv he established Kyiv-Mohyla Academy – the first university in the Eastern Europe
